Breast Milk Storage For Working Mothers

!±8± Breast Milk Storage For Working Mothers

Back in the day, formula was the preferred method for feeding babies, but with the movement toward more natural and healthy feeding, breast milk has moved back to the forefront. With most mothers having to go to work to make ends meet, breast milk storage is becoming more common place. Expressing the milk and storing it for later use is one solution to this issue.

Breast milk pumps and storage containers are quite portable and most employers will understand the need for this in the workplace. All you need is a little privacy and some time to accomplish this task with minimal fuss. Most offices have some type of refrigerator for employee use. Mom can ask for permission for the milk to be stored in once it is pumped until it's time to go home.

As far as privacy, if you are lucky enough to have your own office then locking the door takes care of that. If not, a simple request to the employer will likely get you an area where this can be done, possibly an unoccupied office in your area. Then there is your car, if necessary, as it is private especially if you move to a low traffic area of the parking lot.

Lastly, old faithful for privacy, the restroom. While not the most sanitary or hygienic of conditions, this will assure you are undisturbed while you pump the breast milk. Once done, into the freezer it goes until quitting time, properly labeled of course.

Employers and co workers will be especially sympathetic towards the need for this. Most know how difficult it is for a new mother to be away from her baby in the beginning. You are more likely to get a sympathetic ear than to hear criticism when you need to store your breast milk at work.
